The proceedings began with a performance by the Senior Orchestra, conducted by the Director of Music, Mrs Diane Harrison, followed by an introduction from the Headmaster, Mr Ben Walker, about 'Dreams' and how from little seeds things can grow. Laura Wright treated us all to a beautiful rendition of Danny Boy sung unaccompanied and answered questions about her dreams, the support she had from her teachers and family and what she hoped to achieve in the future.
The official opening of the Dream Garden took place with five lucky Reception boys helping Laura to cut the ribbon.
Invited guests including Governors, Teachers, Parents, and Music staff took the walk through the dream gateway, where they could see all the boys' dreams and aspirations, written on silver card, blowing in the wind on the Christmas trees.
The party moved to the Music Department which was opened by Laura and Mr Walker and the guests were treated to a rendition of A Clare Benediction by Rutter sung by the Senior Choir, conducted by Mrs Harrison. Laura helped the choir with the technical jumps in the song and talked to the boys about getting over nerves and gave them some good 'warm up' exercises. A number of past pupils, who had been talented musicians at Lochinver, also contributed by sending us their thoughts about what music meant to them during their time at Lochinver. The accounts of their musical achievements at senior school and hopes for the future are on display in the Department.
The morning came to a close with Laura and the Senior Choir singing Happy Birthday to Mr Walker!
Many thanks to all who attended and especially to Laura Wright for making the opening so special.
